With the recent 2.0 release of TotalConverter for Android some users may have encountered an error dialog (as shown in the picture) with this writing:

An error with the codec pack occurred.
The right codec application has been installed in your device, but it seems that some important files are missing or it has been removed. Try to reinstall the codec pack or to update it.  If you upgraded TC to the 2.0 version, please read this useful update guide.

This happens because we made a significant number of changes to core codec packages (for example, the ARMv7 Neon, the most common and installed) or because the users uninstalled the codec app.

The solution to this problem is very simple:

  • First of all, don’t panic.
  • Try to update or reinstall (uninstall & install) the codec pack.
  • If you don’t know the architecture of your Android device, you can see the codec pack installed in your phone/tablet in Manage applications under Settings.
  • The dialog also shows a Reinstall button to simplify the fix process.

We just want to remind you that we released this version mainly to fix the Millennium bug, which previously prevented long conversions from being performed.

Additionally:

  • We improved the codec update mechanism — now much more reliable.
  • From now on, codec packages should not be removed, as was done in the 1.x branch.

If you experience problems:

  • Please use our forum or bug tracker.
  • We will not accept bad reviews for this.
  • If you get errors related to input/output filenames (such as invalid characters), simply try changing the output filename automatically generated by the application.

We are actively working to minimize these kinds of bugs.
